Virtual World News: The Tech Virtual Summit – Discussing Digital Democracy in Exhibit Design

Press Release By BusinessWire
The Tech Museum of Innovation (The Tech), one of the nation’s premier science and technology museums, invites you to attend a symposium and roundtable discussion focused on how the open source spirit and social and virtual worlds are impacting museums in an age of participation. Keynote speakers include Philip Rosedale, Linden Lab founder and Chairman, and Peter Friess, Ph.D., president of The Tech.

A panel of leaders from the museum and technology worlds, including exhibit designers and winners of The Tech Virtual competition, will consider the following questions: — How can external experts and amateurs play a role in exhibit design? — How useful are virtual worlds for museums? — How to build and manage an online community — How to foster inter-museum collaboration In December 2007, The Tech launched The Tech Virtual, a revolutionary new approach to creating exhibit content for museums using the virtual world of Second Life as a platform for content development. Six months later The Tech Virtual Test Zone is opening at the real life museum to showcase seven hands-on, interactive exhibits conceptualized and developed originally in the virtual world on the theme of “Art, Film & Music”. VISUALS: There will be opportunities for photos and video in the new exhibition gallery, with exhibit designers for The Tech Virtual Test Zone, where the prototypes of winning exhibits from The Tech Virtual will be on display. WHEN: Wednesday, June 4 1:00-5:00 p.m. PDT WHERE: The Tech Museum of Innovation 201 S. Market Street San Jose, CA 95113 (408) 294-TECH (8324) The event will also be streamed live at The Tech in Second Life (slurl: http://tinyurl.com/3×7bf7) Please RSVP to Analisa Schelle, analisa.schelle@ogilvypr.com
